Modernization, refurbishment and expansion of “MAKEDONIA” National Airport of Thessaloniki
ORGANIZATION OF CULTURAL CAPITAL OF EUROPE “THESSALONIKI ’97”

The refurbishment of the interior and exterior of the entire building and the control tower resulted in the modernization of the main entrance and central hall and the expansion of the domestic and international departures and arrivals areas and the departures balcony. The departure gates and staircases and the new APRON on the control tower have been also renovated. Electromechanical works included the refurbishment and modernization of all mechanical installations in the main building and control tower, as well as the aesthetic and functional improvement regarding the signing and furnishing of the building complex.

The renovation works included total replacement of the inside plumbing and sewerage, reconstruction of the entire heavy current electrical network (lighting-motion), installation of new technology illuminants that cover the special requirements of the airport, loud-speakers installation, central telephone network with UTP cables, replacement of the old heating-ventilating-air conditioning system with new up-to-date air conditioning units and refrigerators, in order to meet the increasing demands, installation of firefighting system and addressable fire detection system of latest technology. All electromechanical installations and systems were linked with the central building management system (BMS).
