The planning and construction of the sports centre in Evosmos included the main sports hall and the facility areas, such as locker rooms, training areas, toilets, offices etc. While the main structure is conventional, the roof is a steel-framed structure with panels and solar collectors and was designed and constructed in order to accommodate the necessary installations for solar energy collection, heating, ventilation and cooling.
The roof incorporates almost 400m2 of solar collector panels for the production of hot water for use and heating, while the openable rooflights provide adequate natural light into the main sports hall. All the above, combined with the electromechanical installations and special equipment, the building materials and thermal insulation, contribute to the energy efficiency of the building, with substantial savings in the production of hot water, heating, ventilation and lighting.
